Welcome to Island Music Journeys

Island Music Journeys was founded by violinist, Brian Silber in 2007. The concert series is dedicated to bringing the world's premier acoustic musicians to St. Croix and surrounding US Virgin Islands for special performances and created to grow a musical and cultural mecca, enriching the lives of all who live and visit our beautiful paradise.

In its inception,  Island Music Journeys was conceived in respect to the now popular and ever growing number of acoustic and "home" concerts presented internationally. For those unfamiliar, a HOME concert is one which is set in an intimate environment, such as one's home/living room, as opposed to a larger and less personal venue. It is also designed as a benefit for listeners to enjoy a more interactive experience between the audience and artists, including the ability to mingle and communicate in person. This format worked well for the 2008 and 2009 events and, although not without exception, this will serve as the model of choice for most future productions.

In 2009, Island Music Journeys incorporated as a NON-PROFIT organization. Our mission is to bring world class musicians to the US Virgin Islands for performances for the general population; to expose children involved in primary/secondary public school music programs to this healthy and diverse variety of accomplished musicianship, experiencing new and exciting styles of music and instrumentation via special school performances; to provide and encourage the opportunity for question/answer exchange between artists and students--exposure to this artistry and level of excellence is intended to inspire and to bring a world of "possibilities" to light for the young and impressionable spirit; to donate funds to assist in providing primary/secondary school music programs with needed music supplies, such as strings, stands, instructional music books, instruments and more; and finally, to donate scholarship award funds for the benefit of sending selected gifted music students to a week long music camp or other related programs of higher artistic learning.

For its first concert event since incorporating as a non-profit organization, and as a result of the substantial additional support from its top notch group of  board members, IMJ has planned a concert for March 6, 2010 that, although a departure from it's original format, is intended to bring more island/regional notice to the series, giving a larger number of  residents/visitors the chance to enjoy unique performances by one of the country's premier acoustic super groups.  Two members of this group stunned listeners in consecutive sold out shows in April, 2009, leaving everyone wanting more.  And, more there will be!  Please click on the 2010 Featured Artists/Entertainment link for information about this exciting event.
